Reviews for The Invisible Son

Oh, this is absolutely fabulous! Percy has always been my favorite character and I always hated how the twins treated him. Urgh. This is wonderful.

Author's Response: I wasn't too fond of Percy until I started to prepare to write this story, and then I had to change my mind a bit. I'm pleased you liked it, and thanks so much for letting me know.

I have to say how much I enjoyed this. Character-driven pieces can be difficult to craft well, but you've done a brilliant job. I feel as though I really know and understand Percy after this. Reading the diary entries as his world began to fall apart was heartbreaking. His stubborn refusal to face his own character flaws and mistakes until it was impossible not to struck an authentic note. As did his total emotional collapse at that point, because his pride and unshakeable belief in himself were the only things holding him together in the end. The only things he had left. And once they were gone, he could no longer see any point. Wonderfully done.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the thoughtful review. I set out to write this, not caring much for Percy. But I went back and read every single scene or mention of him in canon, and I got a glimmer of what the dynamic might be. I only hope that JKR gives us some closure on his character.

I agree I never thought that I would cry over Percy. But at the same time, he had huge shoes to fill, Bill and Charlie ahead of him and Fred and George behind. This is a real eye opener to Percy.

Author's Response: It was a challenge to see him in a different light, he's such a berk in canon, or at least appearances would have him that way. This is just one possible explanation, but the more I researched him and the family dynamics, the more plausible it seemed. Glad you read, and thanks for taking time to let me know that you did.

this story - percy's diary entries, his father's reaction to them, the reconciliation at the end - made me cry. it was only after i left home for my first year of university this year that i truly started to appreciate how much family means... thank you for reminding me of that again.

Author's Response: Funny, I remember feeling the same way my first year at uni...then I adapted, but I never took my family for granted again. I'm pleased the story struck a chord in you, and thanks so much for letting me know.

Wow! You really seem to understand Percy -- and all the Weasleys!

Author's Response: I had to work at understanding Percy, because my first impressions were so influenced by his canon behavior. I reread all the passages in the books where he occurred or was discussed, then thought a great deal about the dynamics of such a large family, and I came up with something I believed could be true. Thanks for taking time to comment--it's appreciated.

Rated 10 Excellent job! This is the first piece of HP fanfic I've ever read, and I must say you have written a great story. Your development of Arthur and Percy, in particular, really meshes seamlessly with their portraits in the books ... as does the plot itself. I'm terribly impressed! Solitaire

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your thoughtful review--your first HP fanfic ever? Wow, well, I'm honored that it was mine, and I"m pleased that you enjoyed it.

You know, I never really thought I'd end up sitting here, crying over Percy, of all characters, but I am-wonderful story, and now no matter what he does or how much of a prat he acts like, I'm forever going to have sympathy and more understanding for him.

Author's Response: Yeah, I know what you mean--I never thought I'd be writing a fic about Percy. But once I got started, and especially alfter I realized that this was a very plausible angle, I developed some sympathy for him. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to him in Book 7. I'm pleased you liked the fic, and thanks so much for letting me know.

This is really excellent. I love that this is a different view of Percy. I cried at the end. ~Keket~

Author's Response: Thanks for letting me know! Crying seems to have been a universal response, but I take it as a good one. I came to see Percy very differently over the course of writing this, reminded that people are the way they are for very good reasons, most of the time.
